"Vayikra" is the Hebrew word for "And He called." In the context of Torah portions, "Vayikra" is the title of the third book of the Torah, known in English as the Book of Leviticus. The name is derived from the opening words of the book in Hebrew, which begin with "And He called to Moses." The Book of Leviticus focuses on laws related to ritual purity, sacrifices, the priesthood, and various ethical and moral principles. It serves as a guide for the Israelites in their worship and daily lives, providing instructions on how to maintain a holy and just community.
Don’t think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you until the heavens and the earth shall pass away, not even one smallest letter י or one tiny pen stroke ן shall in any way pass away from the Torah until all things are accomplished (Matthew 5:17-18).
